Bamako 15 March 2005 - Malian music producer and distributors Mali K7 S.A. and Seydoni Mali have closed their doors and send their personnel home. In Mali, phonographic piracy (cassettes and CDs) has been a gangrene affecting producers, distributors but above all musicians. According to some sources, up to 95 % of the cassettes and CDs on the Malian market is said to be of pirated origin. The two companies urge Malian Minister of Culture Cheick Oumar Cissoko to claim his promise to combat piracy, until now without great effect.
